Crock Pot Round Steak Gravy (Printer-Friendly)

Tender beef round steak simmered slowly with savory brown gravy and aromatic garlic and onions.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Beef

01 - 2 pounds boneless beef round steak, cut into 8 thin pieces

→ Seasonings

02 - ½ teaspoon salt
03 - ½ teaspoon black pepper

→ Vegetables

04 - 1 medium sweet onion, thinly sliced
05 - 4 cloves garlic, minced

→ Sauce and Thickener

06 - 1 packet brown gravy mix
07 - 2 cups unsalted beef stock
08 - 3 tablespoons cornstarch

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Season both sides of the beef round steak pieces evenly with ½ teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon black pepper.
02 - Place half of the sliced onions and half of the minced garlic in the bottom of a 6-8 quart slow cooker.
03 - Arrange the seasoned steak pieces in a single layer over the onions and garlic in the slow cooker.
04 - Sprinkle the brown gravy mix evenly over the steaks.
05 - Distribute the remaining sliced onions and minced garlic over the gravy mix.
06 - Pour 2 cups of unsalted beef stock over all ingredients in the slow cooker.
07 - Cover and cook on LOW for 7-8 hours or on HIGH for 5-6 hours until beef is tender.
08 - During the last 30 minutes, remove approximately ½ cup of cooking liquid and whisk together with 3 tablespoons cornstarch until smooth. Return mixture to the slow cooker, stir to combine, increase heat to HIGH, and cook uncovered until gravy thickens.
09 - Serve hot, preferably over mashed potatoes or your choice of side.

# Helpful Hints:

01 - For optimal tenderness, cook the meat low and slow; cooking longer will result in fall-apart beef.
02 - Use unsalted beef stock because the brown gravy mix contains sufficient salt.
03 - Leftovers can be refrigerated up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
