Season both sides of the beef round steak pieces evenly with ½ teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon black pepper.

Place half of the sliced onions and half of the minced garlic in the bottom of a 6-8 quart slow cooker.

Arrange the seasoned steak pieces in a single layer over the onions and garlic in the slow cooker.

Sprinkle the brown gravy mix evenly over the steaks.

Distribute the remaining sliced onions and minced garlic over the gravy mix.

Pour 2 cups of unsalted beef stock over all ingredients in the slow cooker.

Cover and cook on LOW for 7-8 hours or on HIGH for 5-6 hours until beef is tender.

During the last 30 minutes, remove approximately ½ cup of cooking liquid and whisk together with 3 tablespoons cornstarch until smooth. Return mixture to the slow cooker, stir to combine, increase heat to HIGH, and cook uncovered until gravy thickens.

Serve hot, preferably over mashed potatoes or your choice of side.
