Slow Cooker Barbecue Chicken (Printer-Friendly)

Juicy chicken slow-cooked with tangy barbecue sauce and spices for effortless, mouthwatering flavor.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Main

01 - 2.2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, rinsed and patted dry
02 - 1 cup barbecue sauce, preferred brand or homemade
03 - 1 medium yellow onion, diced
04 - 3 garlic cloves, minced
05 - Salt, to taste
06 - Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

→ Garnish

07 - Fresh chives, finely chopped (optional)

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Rinse chicken breasts under cold water, pat them thoroughly dry with paper towels, and trim any excess fat. Dice the onion and mince the garlic cloves.
02 - Sprinkle the chicken breasts with salt and freshly ground black pepper on all sides, ensuring even seasoning.
03 - Place the diced onion and minced garlic in the bottom of the slow cooker. Arrange the seasoned chicken breasts on top of the vegetables.
04 - Pour the barbecue sauce evenly over the chicken breasts, making sure each piece is coated.
05 - Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook on low heat for 6 hours or on high for 3 hours, until the chicken is fully cooked and very tender.
06 - Carefully transfer the cooked chicken to a cutting board. Using two forks, shred the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Return shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir to combine with the sauce and onions.
07 - Transfer the barbecue chicken to a serving bowl and garnish with freshly chopped chives if desired. Serve hot.

# Helpful Hints:

01 - For enhanced flavor depth, use smoked barbecue sauce or add a pinch of smoked paprika before cooking.
02 - Shredded barbecue chicken is excellent for sandwiches, tacos, or served over rice.
