Swirled Garlic Herb Cheese (Printer-Friendly)

Soft bread rolled with garlic herb butter, layered cheeses, baked to golden perfection.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Dough

01 - 3 cups all-purpose flour
02 - 2 teaspoons instant yeast
03 - 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
04 - 1 teaspoon salt
05 - 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
06 - 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
07 - 1 large egg

→ Garlic Herb Butter

08 - 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
09 - 3 cloves garlic, minced
10 - 1 teaspoon dried oregano
11 - 1 teaspoon dried basil
12 - ½ teaspoon salt

→ Cheese Filling

13 - 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
14 - 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar or grated Parmesan cheese

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Combine flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Stir until a sticky dough forms. Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
02 - In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, and salt until smooth and aromatic.
03 - Roll the risen dough into a large rectangle approximately 9 by 13 inches. Spread the garlic herb butter evenly over the entire surface. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar or Parmesan evenly on top.
04 - Roll the dough tightly from the long end into a log. Slice the log lengthwise into two long pieces. Twist the two strips together, exposing the layers of cheese and herbs. Place the twisted dough into a greased loaf pan or shape freely on a baking sheet.
05 - Cover the shaped loaf and let it rest for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown and cheese is bubbly.
06 - Allow the bread to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm to enjoy the soft, cheesy, and buttery garlic layers.

# Helpful Hints:

01 - For a softer crust, wrap the bread in a clean towel immediately after baking and cooling slightly.
02 - The dough can be frozen after the first rise; thaw and shape before the second rise.
